Tarnation, 2003

A riveting, emotionally devastating self-made film about one mans struggle with the cards that were dealt him. That the film-maker/subject is around my age and used the popular images and music of our youth to tell his story just made it that much better for me. That he dealt with his family warts and all on a completely honest level is indeed something to be proud of. Sometimes we have to tell the total, unvarnished truth to survive. Its hard to watch, even harder to do, but, in the end, I think its worth both the telling and the watching.
