The performances are good, and the film has a nice visual style. The cyberpunk plot is promising at first, but as everything unravels the script becomes a victim of its own efficiency.

Not a bad movie, very predictable and kinda cookie-cutter but also enjoyable. I'm glad I didn't spend $10 to see it in a movie theater, but some sci-fi fans may enjoy it when there's nothing better in your queue.

Despite a slick look and interesting premise, the movie is marred by less than state-of-the-art visual effects, as well as rather pedestrian direction. Watchable, but well short of its potential.

"SURROGATES" is a weak film, but for sci-fi fans it'll serve as a quick, guilty pleasure. The movie is premised on a time in the future when most of us can lay about at home connected, "Matrix"-like, to a human-like robotic surrogate that does whatever we want it to. Some bad guy is not only destroying surrogates but also killing their operators at home. Enter Bruce Willis, who single-handily is out to save the entire world as well as his failing marriage. There's nothing clever or original in the film, but it goes down quickly. If I had a surrogate, I'd send it to watch movies like this so I wouldn't have to.

Not a very good movie by a long shot, but it takes place in MA and it was interesting to see Lynn 'in the future.' If cheesy sci-fi movies with anti-technological advancement themes are your bag, this movie was only a minor waste of time.

8/10Great
Last time, when we left director Jonathan Mostow, he had directed Terminator 3, which told of one robot trying to save the saviour of the human race against another robot who wants to kill said saviour, so the robots can take over without a hitch. Well, at the beginning of Surrogates, they basicly have done that, in a manner of speaking. It seems that the majority of the world is using Surrogates, idealized versions of their owners, to move around and be them, while the owners stay plugged in, experiencing the world through the Surrogate. One night the Surrogate of the son of the creator of the Surrogates (James Cromwell) is killed with a weapon with the slight side effect of also killing the operator of the Surrogate. Enter Tom Greer (Bruce Willis), who is assigned to this case, must try to get the killer before they strike again. But when, due to occupational hazards, Tom must finish the case as his human self, will Tom be successful, or will he fail, due to the realization of the old adage "appearances CAN be decieving"...
I really liked Surrogates. It was a surprise that Mostow directed a film that is quite the opposite of the action film with the somewhat downer ending that was Terminator 3. It is a film that runs at a brisk rate, about 90 minutes, and has a few good exciting action sequences (especially human Tom chasing the Surrogate in the last third of the film), that isn't overly spectacular, but does fit in the layout of the film. And it does have a moral at the end, if you take it that way. Any-hoo, it's not end-of-the-world stuff, but best taken with soda and a theatre sized snack, Surrogates fits the bill for Saturday Afternoon thrills and spills and I give Surrogates 4 stars, and happy viewings!!!

I read a New York Post review of this film on metacritic.com before watching. It said "Among cheesy sci-fi movies meant to make you think, I'll take Surrogates over "District 9." Both are highly derivative, but in the course of recombining the basic chromosomes of "Blade Runner," "The Matrix" and especially "I, Robot," Surrogates nudges the robo-thriller in an interesting direction."
I am a fan of similar movies, Matrix, Blade Runner, even Minority Report. I don't think this movie stands up to comparison. The characters are not well developed, I don'really care about them and the film fails to deliver a sense of tension leading up to a global event.
Although the action sequences were good and the art direction competent,uUltimately I would not recommend this movie. You have seen better in other films mentioned above.
Watchable but forgettable.
