Profile of Suburban Commando
Suburban Commando can be described as humorous. The plot revolves around bounty hunters, benign aliens, and lone wolves. The main genres are comedy, independent, and adventure. In terms of style, Suburban Commando is futuristic. In approach, it is fantastical. It is set, at least in part, on a ship and in the suburbs. Suburban Commando is well suited for kids, a family outing, and teens.
Summary of Suburban Commando
Charlie Wilcox (Christopher Lloyd) is an average, middle-aged guy with a loving wife and two kids, a humdrum job, and a mean boss. Shep Ramsey (Hulk Hogan) is an intergalactic hero who's on a mission hunting down a power-mad general (William Ball) out to control the universe. The two team up to save the universe in SUBURBAN COMMANDO.
Midway between planets, Shep's ship breaks down. As he waits for its repair, he rents a room in Charlie's house and experiences the everyday trivialities of suburbia. When two miscreant bounty hunters roll (Roy Dotrice and Dennis Burkley) into town and threaten peaceful suburban life, Shep convinces Charlie to help him defeat the evil General Suitor.
SUBURBAN COMMANDO, director Burt Kennedy's first foray into 1990s action-comedy, is a fantastic film for the entire family. A John Wayne for the new millennium, Hulk Hogan is absolutely lovable. His charisma makes Schwarzenegger and Sly Stalone look like bricks in the oven as SUBURBAN COMMANDO satirizes and runs circles around other blockbuster films like TERMINATOR and FIRST BLOOD. Burt Kennedy practically wrote the book on sappy and gut-wrenching Westerns (WAR WAGON, SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL SHERIFF, ROUNDERS), only he could pull off a script like this and he does so wonderfully.
