I think this is the sole Will Ferrell movie I enjoyed. It has a lot to do with the fact that it's not a standard Ferrell flick.

I was really pleasantly surprised by this film. I wasn't expecting it to be that funny (Will Ferrell comedy is not my style), but it was. It's smart, low-key comedy and it's also quite sweet and charming. I thought the acting was great, even by the actors I don't usually care for (Ferrell, and Maggie Gyllenhaal) and I found the story interesting and thought-provoking. Essentially, I expected to end up rolling my eyes at the state of comedy these days while being happy enough that I'd gotten to watch Emma Thompson and Dustin Hoffman for a couple of hours. I actually ended up being kind of moved. I'm pretty sure I'll seek this one out again in the future. I may even put it on my DVD wish list. It's the kind of thing that'd be good for my particularly emo days.

There are funny spots but it's more of a drama and Will Ferrell is playing against typecast and you've never seen him like this. I really enjoyed the movie and I bought the storyline. I'm surprised this movie did not get more attention but the movie trailers did not do it justice. A film with thought behind it and the anti-summer blockbuster film I recommend this film but be patient it is slow and not one of Will's usual goofy offerings.

What can I say, I was under the impression at first that this film was just another knock off of Being John Malkovich or maybe something less original. So imagine my surprise when I was thrown in to a roller coaster of emotions, laughter, sadness, anxiety! This movie was so well played out at times (with no disrespect to him of course) I found it hard to believe I was watching a Will Ferrell movie! This cinematic wonder truly brings Ferrell and the rest of the cast to another level entirely.

Ferrell is trying to expand his acting skills. Dustin Hoffman plays a small part and he is wonderful here as well (would you like to conquer Poland?). it's a special movie and I recommend it.
