It's real earnest. I'm completely sympathetic to it's viewpoint. It's well-made. And it's gonna have do something more to ever get me to watch it again. Points for trying real hard.

This movie was a good movie. Slow at some parts put eventually picked up. The movie would have been rated more had I not gone in with so many expectations. I would buy this movie when it comes out on DVD.

"Stop-Loss" is an earnest, convincing drama about a young Texas Marine whose already done one tour in Iraq and another in Afghanistan. Now he's slated, finally, to get out and on the day of his supposed departure, the Marines impress him for yet another tour in Iraq under the military's infamous "Stop-Loss" provision. While our hero loves the Corps and his buddies, he's seen terrible things under fire and is suffering post-traumatic stress disorder, though he doesn't even know it. How he'll handle the stop-loss order -- go along or go AWOL -- is the emotional core of the film, and it all rings true to life. A problem with the film, however, is that it can't decide whether it's primarily a drama or a polemic. It's best when it concerns the passions and predicament of its protagonist, but sometimes it strays into wanting to be a documentary about the admittedly unfair and misguided stop-loss program.
