Very atmospheric and creepy, this one really got under my skin. It's not so much the frightening creatures that come hurtling out of the mist as the ones that are trapped inside the grocery store that form the real focus of the movie's horror...

Good, but...
Very atmospheric and creepy, this one really got under my skin. It's not so much the frightening creatures that come hurtling out of the mist as the ones that are trapped inside the grocery store that form the real focus of the movie's horror element. I thought this was a good example of what happens to people under pressure when the normal framework of civilization has broken down. What brought it down for me was the ending, though- I realize it really fits in with the rest of the film but, my god, most depressing movie ending, EVER.

Its not necessarily the monsters outside you need be afraid of. Its everyone else that is the real threat in a situation like this. A sobering tail of how quickly civilization can break down.

From the opening until the end you are swallowed by your seat and there are probably couch scars from your nails...or maybe the other person you are watching it with now has these scars. The movie is gripping and the ending is even more surprising...

From the opening until the end you are swallowed by your seat and there are probably couch scars from your nails...or maybe the other person you are watching it with now has these scars. The movie is gripping and the ending is even more surprising which will leave you collecting your thoughts long after it's over. Watch the black and white version to enjoy an even creepier factor. This is by far the best Stephen King adaption ever.

Here is an example of a horror movie where the people in it are so stupid that you actually WANT them to die. Throughout the entire film they make decisions with easily avoidable consequences had they just thought it through. Had they done something other than stand around and scream. That said, the end was perfect. It is worth three of the four stars I gave it. Satisfaction.

Most depressing movie ever.
I thought it was a good watch, definitely creepy and makes you think with all the drama going on inside the store. The horror really got under my skin and you can feel the desperate, tense atmosphere- much more creative and original than the chopping people up instead of expending the effort at coming up with a scary story, sad excuse for horror that movies like "Saw" are, just don't expect to come away from this one feeling uplifted. The heavy despair kind of stays with you after the movie ends.

Oye. Great writer but I'm convinced all of his good book-to-movie days are over. Obviously the thrillers from before the mid ninties were consistently good but with special effects now I feel like too much of what he wants us to imagine is being...

Oye. Great writer but I'm convinced all of his good book-to-movie days are over. Obviously the thrillers from before the mid ninties were consistently good but with special effects now I feel like too much of what he wants us to imagine is being forced into his movies.
Disturbing. Classic King, small town joins together to battle a force or someone that could kill them all. Some die. Some live. Thrilling until about 3/4 through the movie.
Storm of the Century will forever be my favorite King mini series/movie. Along the lines of Da Vinci Code, playing on religious facts, puzzles, scary, thrilling, etc. This is the last good King movie in my opinion.

It's amazing how often the acting (or lack thereof) diminishes so many of Steven King's movies. There must always been that one caricature of a real human being who is so over-the-top that the viewer is rudely jarred out of the story. It's so disappointing because this really was a creepy, suspenseful story with more than one bug-your-eyes out moment. As the story progressed I started to get the impression I had seen this before... That's it - the programmers for Doom and Half Life are obviously King fans!
