Missed opportunity
Plenty of weirdness and squick factor (mutant-humping ahoy) but these moments seem to be dropped in for shock value and the plot is bland and predictable. The actors do their best but they can't save this film. The ewww bits also mean it's not really suitable for movie night with friends or date night. However the effects are awesome. If you like the genre(s) give it a try, your mileage may vary.

Aweful
The story is unbelieveably twisted, touches upon many psychological and ethical topics without fully exploring them and gets so stupidly gross towards the end, i wish i could've gotten my money back.

A solid three-star sci-fi movie ¿ remove a star if you¿re not a sci-fi fan with a high tolerance for mediocrity ¿ SPLICE nonetheless squanders its cast and special effects with a dumb, predictable script and claustrophobic settings. The creation of a designer life form is more believable than how the producers have it all happen secretly in a giant corporate lab, which apparently has never heard the word ¿security¿ or has any ideal what its employees are up to. You can see way in advance just about anything that happens in the film, and the plot is far from unique, but a decent cast and a sort-of Soho attitude helps compensate. Thankfully, the film isn¿t very long. The DVD has no extras.

Shocking, dark and disturbing, "Splice" is a twisted social drama in the guise of a sci-fi/horror film.

not what the trailer suggests
Splice is much more a sci-fi film than a horror one. it has some scary moments (especially towards the end) but it builds mostly on characters and atmosphere, which like in the films of fellow Canadian David Cronenberg are pretty dark and eerie.

I'm not sure what happened here. You think Adrien Brody, you think, "Yeah, this guy knows what he's doing. He wouldn't be in some stupid genre film that sucks." Well, yes, he would. I actually found his character to be somewhat likable. His girlfriend lady? Not so much. She played too much into the maternal role and it was just beyond weird and predictable at times. Like, really? Did she really just do that? Really? I'd say the last 30 minutes were more 3 star territory, but there was one thing that happened that I thought, "No way. They wouldn't." But they did. I'm still not sure how I feel. So yeah, maybe worth a RedBox $1 rental. I was with good company tho, so it's all good. 1 1/2 stars.

Beautiful action!
I loved this. It was action-packed but not exaggerated. It was thrilling to a point where I was at the edge of my chair. It includes some very interesting ethical issues, without being too exhausting.

I really enjoyed this one. The wonderful Adrian Brody partnered with a less-talented yet delivering Sarah Polley, combines some wonderful elements in this fusion of action and drama. Splice turns to some different audiences – it has the action parts that fit its summer blockbuster nature, and it has the dramatic part contemplating about ethics and love. If it was just the action, well this film was 10 minutes long as the creature could be killed in seconds as a baby. But the two scientists give us a reason to believe this would be unethical. And that's the hard part – where many different films have gone wrong before, giving us lame excuses to why the initially easy to kill creature is not killed at first, becoming a nightmarish deadly creature, I was really convinced the creature in Splice placed a moral and ethical question.

If any of you are true connoisseurs of the science fiction genre, you will be sadly disappointed. Based upon other reviews, I was hopeful that this movie would be portrayed as believable science with the main characters behaving like real people. Unfortunately neither is true. The actors and actresses were silly with contrived dialog. The science fiction would have been better dubbed stupid fiction. If you want to see a good science fiction movie, put Moon in your queue.
