Spider, 2002

Before seeing this film, I'd read a few negative reviews of it. From what I can see, though, the people who didn't like it just didn't understand it. It's confusing and disjointed and people complain about that. Well, what did they expect, with such an unreliable narrator? When the point of view character is not sane, of course things are going to be confusing. As long as you keep that in mind, nothing should come as a huge surprise and nothing should confuse you that much, really. And it still manages to be interesting, even if you understand the character(s) before the writer and director would like you to. It's very well-acted (um, duh, what else do you expect from Ralph Fiennes and Miranda Richardson [and Gabriel Byrne and Lynn Redgrave and John Neville, hello]) and I liked the music and pretty much everything. It really left me thinking after it was over.
