Soul Surfer, 2011

A excellent movie for anyone. To some it might seem preachy or "religious." However, the movie did a good job at portraying the lives of the Hamiltons. Their personal relationship with Jesus is what kept them going though this rough time even though it was largely difficult and unforeseen. I thought the director did a great job portraying their faith with out making it preachy. In creating a movie about ones life you have to incorporate their beliefs. You wouldn't make a movie about Gandhi with out revealing his belief system. I appreciated the small measures taken to show that part of what got them through this rough time was their belief in Jesus Christ it is what drove them to be who they were and how they responded. Which is exactly how Christians try to live their lives. As for the acting the main characters were great Dennis Quaid and Helen Hunt had a great chemistry and AnnaSophia Robb really shined even Craig T Nelsons appearance was well received after knowing him as coach for all these years. Of course other actors were mediocre, Carrie Underwood did well but should not quit singing for acting. I only felt that the mediocre acting in some areas did not take away from the stars and the over all feel of the movie. I would say try it.. Why not cant hurt and it is always encouraging to see a good underdog movie!
