I really enjoyed this film and probably thought the standout moment was the final scene/shot.
It's a character/situation study in my opinion and does this well. Michael Douglas' character is so self destructive and just won't quit, it kept me mildly uncomfortable for the whole film.
The film felt nicely edited. I didn't feel their were extra bits that didn't need to be there.
The film didn't cram some simple moral down your throat; instead left me thinking, I love it when I feel compelled to discuss a movie straight after watching it. I'll probably go to bed now still thinking about it.

Coming of middle age?
That film sure was good. The film claims to be easygoing feel good comedy drama, but it is so much more. It is, in fact, close to something I may call "Coming of middle age". Michael Douglas is middle aged man who refuses to admit he is not as young as he used to be, therefore he finds himself in coming of age situations, while teaching the ways of the world to his new teenage best friend. Danny DeVito and Susan Sarandon complete a wonderful cast to make not a funny comedy drama, but also a very intimate and emotional one.
