It's rare to find a truly funny movie that successfully pulls off a social message dramatically. I really didn't expect this to be that funny, but it turned out to be pretty hilarious and had me laughing through the first hour. At that point the film became more of a drama, but the transition was so smooth that i didn't mind giving up the riotous comedy for the rest of the movie, which was poignant & more sober. The story is by no means unique, but the cast is engaging & wonderful, headed by Matthew Lillard who really shines here with his impressive acting range (see 1:25 for a taste of his dramatic skills...) And unlike many other decade-old films, this one is still fresh & very relevant. Highly recommend! ~NN

As far as punk rock music goes, I'm a fan. As far as watching this movie stand out more because of it's story and using the type of music to support that, well it does a superb job. I didn't realize how great I thought this movie was until I rented...

As far as punk rock music goes, I'm a fan. As far as watching this movie stand out more because of it's story and using the type of music to support that, well it does a superb job. I didn't realize how great I thought this movie was until I rented it again after a short absence of not seeing it. I believe back then I had it on VHS and with this being one of my favorite movies that came out of the 90's I can't figure out why I have not bought it to own on DVD yet, looks like this movie will definetly be moved to the top of my list of movies to buy. Matthew Lillard does a great job, probably the best acting job of his career. Jason Segel who has been hilarious in such shows as "Undeclared", "Freaks and Geeks", and now "How I Met Your Mother" also does a great job of playing a "regular" looking kid who actually is pretty hardcore. This movie is probably liked by people who listen to the types of music that are in it but I know there are a lot of people who will like this movie regardless of if they like the music involved.

The film is an a realistic portrayal of the suburban punk culture in the 80's. Great acting and script,not sure if it was completely accurate of the punk scene in Salt Lake City, but I definitely recommend this movie to anyone that has any interest...
