The good: It suspensefully delays gratification very well in the way they dont show the aliens.
The bad: (spoiler) Im sorry, but given the ending there is no way those aliens would have come to earth in the first place. Would humans invade a planet with oceans full of cyanide and thick clouds of cyanide vapor in the atmosphere? Not. Only an idiot would suspend their disbelief that far. But maybe thats the point of the movie. Faith in Religion requires an heavy suspension of disbelief to accept as truth the most implausible events. But people do it anyway, much like the people who fell for the gaping flaw in this movies premise.
The ugly: Mel Gibson.

I liked this movie more than I thought I would. I'm not fond of Shyamalan's pace for movies in that they crawl along so slowly I lose interest, however the interaction between Gibson and Phoenix was great, and I liked seeing Gibson in a role where...

I liked this movie more than I thought I would. I'm not fond of Shyamalan's pace for movies in that they crawl along so slowly I lose interest, however the interaction between Gibson and Phoenix was great, and I liked seeing Gibson in a role where he isn't in control.
Very similar in pace to Sixth Sense, it does deliver the goods in the latter half of the film. Some of the ending does fit all too nicely, however if the rest of the movie is good enough, I'm able to overlook these pieces.

One man redemption, his troubled family and in the background a full scale alien invasion. minimal use of special effect the music and unique shooting angels create a great thriller
