The most unfortunate part of the plot of Shrek 3 is that it really didnt need to be told. Character development was completely absent from the film aside from a small arc involving Shrek and his impending fatherhood. Even worst, the satire that the first film was heralded for (and was weakened in the second film) is almost completely absent here. There was great potential for parody with the introduction of Merlin and King Arthur. A Knights of the Round Table story perhaps? No. Instead, they turn to the hackneyed plot of a loser-boy who triumphs over his loser-ness to become king. This tired story also led to many overly sappy moments that could have been helped by witty dialogue and funny gags, but instead the writers let the sap take center stage. Aside from a few laugh out loud moments (very few), the film just feels unnecessary for the franchise and ultimately not too funny or entertaining.

I was so looking forward to the third installment, only to be let down. The animations are still par to none, but the story this time around was flat with puns that proceeded musical lead ins, which gave the punchline away almost every time....

I was so looking forward to the third installment, only to be let down. The animations are still par to none, but the story this time around was flat with puns that proceeded musical lead ins, which gave the punchline away almost every time. But still the movie as a whole was OK, kids will giggle at some of the characters, but it fell far short of the first two movies. Andrew Adamson directed the first two, his warmth and character depth definitely left with him.

The third installment of any film is never as good as the first two but Shrek is just as good as parts one and two. While most kids will never get most of the jokes the Shrek Trilogy is one of the best in animation. Not much to say here since this series is so well known. If you have not seen all three films but always wanted to then you should catch up. Loved this film and look foward to seeing them all in row in the future and can't wait for another Shrek film in a few years.

Shrek the Third's biggest strengths are also its biggest weaknesses. It is the third movie in the series, and after three, I find myself thinking that it should end here. While I know it won't end here, with each new sequel, the movies will be accused of money-grabbing, and I don't want that to happen. The Third is beautiful, very detailed, and the characters have their trademark jokes we know and love. Shrek is a great character to make a movie about, but it's starting to feel like a one-trick show. He's an ogre, we know that, but why three movies worth of telling us? Still, this movie was very good in terms of quality, and the soundtrack was exceptional. The songs in the film were perfectly timed to the mood. I like Shrek a lot, but making many more of these movies is pushing the limit a bit.

Third time wasn't a charm with this one. They should have just quit after the first two. But here's a warning... if order to see this movie you are FORCED to watch the previews! Yes, FORCED!!! You can't use your menu button to override them and you can't just fast forward through them (because when you hit play again you'll be returned to the beginning of the preview routine). I dislike watching previews and resent having to sit through them when I rent a DVD. It's as bad as having to sit through advertising when going to the theater.

While Shrek III isn't horrible, it also doesn't live up to the original (Shrek I) because it simply can't. Myers is still hilarious, the jokes still come in hard and thick, but it lacks the novelty of the first - that being something that no-ones...
