Everything about this movie was contrived. It was just so silly and failed at so many points. We were asked to pretend that no one in the movie could recongnize Amanda Bynes as a girl, when she so obviously did not look like a boy at all. Half the time she does not sound like a boy either. It was just lame. Watched this with my 17 year old daughter, who loved it. Perhaps that's the best commentary of all.

I'm really surprised by how funny she is. I only rented it because she's amazingly hot, but now that I've actually seen her act I hope she has some juicier roles coming.

I'll start off by saying I was just in the mood for a mindless and ridiculous movie, and this was exactly what I was looking for. It is what it is, and I accept it for all its imperfections and predictability, because in the end, it still gave me a good giggle! In this modern adaptation of Shakespeare's 'Twelfth Night,' we meet Viola (Amanda Bynes) whose (girls) soccer team is being cut from the school's curriculum, and, being one of the better soccer players at her school, she sets out to play for the boys' team. But, to no avail, the boys and their sexist ways give her a crazy idea: how about I dress up as my twin brother, try out for the soccer team at one of the most prestigious schools and the biggest rival to our school, and show them that girls can do what boys do, if not better!? Things go completely crooked when Viola, who is playing Sebastain, falls for the incredibly hunky Duke, who likes Olivia, who likes Sebastain, who is really Viola. Get it? Got it? Good. Really, this is a very funny movie, and if anything shines at the end of this movie, it is the fact that Amanda Bynes is really quite the comedian. Truly comical. 3.5 stars. 3/12/09

switching roles movie about a boy and girl twins were the girl masquerade to her brother and go to his boarding school... the characters behave very like teens with a lot of their manners and it's actually convincing. by following her dream she deals with her gender and with a teenage love... there is disorder everywhere and some awkward moments but it's still an humorous feel good film that you can enjoy during a date night or just a night with friends.
