A cute movie about the underclass? Even my kids weren't amused. Behind the insipid premise and tired stereotypes are impressive technical effects. But, there are tons better choices in kid's fare out there.

I try to save my 'F' rating for only those films that nearly bring me to tears of agony or boredom. Let me just say, I almost rated Shark Tale that low. It was bad. Really, really bad. With so much talent involved with this project, I couldn't believe how absolutely terrible it was. The only thing that kept Shark Tale from garnering that dreaded 'F' was Martin Scorsese. Seeing, or hearing, him opposite De Niro was a lot of fun. But other than that, I am hard pressed to find any other redeeming qualities in this movie.
I will be the first to admit that comparing Shark Tale to Finding Nemo isn't fair, but on a very basic level, one film can be compared to any other. What did Finding Nemo have that Shark Tale lacked? A story I cared about, a decent script, characters I loved (or hated - Darla!), and semi-realistic scenery. To be honest, Shark Tale didn't even come close to matching Finding Nemo on any of these. The movie took place in "the ocean" around "a reef."
The DVD was beautiful, although I expected nothing less after seeing the Finding Nemo DVD. Another unfair comparison, but I know how good a CG underwater world can look. Shark Tale was bright and vibrant, the colors were stunning. The black levels were very solid and the transfer was extremely clean. The picture quality was top notch. The sound mix was plenty adequate, but there were several moments where I felt the surround could have been used much more effectively. In the end, Shark Tale was a terrible movie presented beautifully.

If you like Finding Nemo, this movie is right on par with that. Great characters, who take on a similarity with their real life actor voices. Plenty of laughs along the way have you wanting to watch it again after this quick 90 minute movie is...

Everyone can enjoy Shark Tale!
I agree with every word written by Regina here. This is a film very suitable for kids, yet grown ups can enjoyits humor just as much with its clever inside jokes about the all star cast. Excellent entertainment for the whole family!

the thing that i really liked about this movie is that the animated characters look just like the actors dubbing them, and you can recognize characters and references to other films. This film is a nice animated comedy but the fact that it has many levels makes it enjoyable for everyone and not just for kids. The story is simple and good. There's a great message for the kids and some more sophisticated jokes for the adults. Pure fun.
