The opening beach assault sequences were the most violent, realistic, and upsetting filming I've ever seen; looked as though the thing was actual combat footage. The shushing noises of rounds cutting through the air was the most chilling part of all. Perfect portrayal of the intensity of war and the anguish of all who are called to take part in such heroic enterprises. A must see. I have never been affected by a movie the way Saving Private Ryan affected me. That movie really took me out of my seat and practically had me believing I was really in the battle. When somebody was dying in that movie, it felt as if you could almost feel their pain. Steven Spielberg did an unbelievable job of putting realism into this movie with the camera-work and everything else. Simply amazing. If you are a WWII buff you have already seen this film, I am just amazed at the acting and cinematography, the direction, and everything associated with this movie. It is a masterpiece. I gave it 5 STARS. Once you watch this movie you realize why they gather at the site of the D-DAY Landing every year. It is because it was a monumental undertaking, and it was captured so very well in this movie. If you have not seen it, please watch it. And if you have, it is worth another look.

Someone pointed out something about this movie to me that bugs me now. It is a SPOILER. At the beginning of the film, they show the old man and then they fade back to WW2 and Tom Hanks face. Well, as a twist, at the end we find out the old guy is...

Someone pointed out something about this movie to me that bugs me now. It is a SPOILER. At the beginning of the film, they show the old man and then they fade back to WW2 and Tom Hanks face. Well, as a twist, at the end we find out the old guy is actually Matt Damon. Okay, fair enough, but since Damon doesn't show up till the last half of the movie, how is he flashing back to things he wasn't even there for? This is still a five star movie to me, but I just can't get past that.

"Saving Private Ryan" is a fantastic movie that everybody should watch. It has excellent acting and lovable characters. It comes pretty close to "All Quiet in the Western Front" which is the greatest war movie of all time. And that's saying a lot.

It's rare that I am moved to tears by a movie, but watching this was one of those times. This film conveys the gruesome reality of war through the use of shocking images and impresses on the viewer the hell that these terrified young men were forced to endure in order to achieve their commanders' objectives. Human life is evidently viewed as materiel, just like the tanks, guns and explosives. At the sharp end, you see the truly amazing powers of leadership as young officers lead their men into impossible situations and expect, and are rewarded with, inconceivable acts of bravery under hellish conditions. The movie is highly emotive and thought-provoking. Everyone should see this movie.

This classic WWII movie is an exciting and emotional tale of a group of soldiers who go on a dangerous heroic mission to save the life of just one soldier. The opening scene is overwhelming, could be too tough to watch for some. This is a long film but most certainly worth it. "Private Ryan" is so well done that the time flies.
