If you loved the Indiana Jones and the Lethal Weapon movies - this movie is for you. It is the mix with the best of both movie series. Be opened minded when watching it and you'll love it too!

If you go into Sahara expecting Raiders of the Lost Ark, you're going to be disappointed. Of course it's not as good, don't be ridiculous. But, while Sahara falls short of such a high benchmark, it was still a very enjoyable movie. Is it going to win awards for best acting, best screenplay, or anything else? No, I highly doubt it. But it kept me glued to the screen for it's running time and plastered a fairly consistent smile on my face.
Dirk Pitt will never be Indiana Jones, but he is a fun and interesting character. Matthew McConaughey put on a fantastic show, giving the character some real charisma and enthusiasm. Steve Zahn added just the right amount of comedy to lighten things up, but was never too silly. These two worked well together and I can definitely see them coming back for a sequel. In fact, I might welcome a sequel to Sahara. The source material certainly exists! The weakest link was easily Penelope Cruz who just wasn't quite believable as a WHO doctor. I can't say exactly why, but I didn't buy her in that role.
Sahara as a whole is bristling with energy, and that's what makes it so fun. Once it gets rolling, it doesn't slow down, and the finale action sequence was totally Hollywood-esque, but it was great fun to watch. The plot is laughable, but I never once cared while watching the movie. I never stopped and though "yeah, right..." I was having too much fun. In short, just about everyone can find something to like in Sahara. Don't expect much in the way of a story or character development, just sit back and enjoy the rise.
