This movie is nothing but pretentious bulls**t. The plot is non-existant, it's supposed to a mindtrip but it's just a big bore. It's funny cause if you don't like it, people will most likely say "you didn't get it", and those who liked it (why?) but...

It's funny cause if you don't like it, people will most likely say "you didn't get it", and those who liked it (why?) but don't get it, will pretend that they got it cause they don't want to seem stupid. At the end of the commentary someone mentions that it needs to be watched again cause there's a lot going on in the movie. Umm... no there's not. I got it the first time and it's still stupid. The only way it could've been worse is if he'd cast Madonna in the lead role.
It was well acted though, I was particularly impressed with Andre Benjamin. Beautifully shot too, but still a waste of time.

As another reviewer did, I gave this a 5 to get it closer to the 4 it deserves. This movie is a thinking movie. Its all about confidence and your mind and what it does to you. Ill give you that much. Besides that, I guess The Usual Suspects is a decent comparison but its not that type of movie either. This is the different type of film that most people complain that Hollywood wont make. It will also leave you second guessing yourself a few times. I actually figured out the ending halfway through but then I started to wonder if that was a red herring. Guy Ritchie makes a clever film and shows that hes not just about dark humor.

Wow. Im not sure what to say. The reviews that i have read from Pros and homebodys alike seem somehow disconnected from the movie that i sat down to watch. Im not saying that this is an instant classic, or even that it isnt predictable, but a single star? Please. There is tripe being well reviewed by "critics" every day. Just because an overly-jaded 60 year old child cannot wrap his watered down brain around a story that isnt laid out in a linear fashion doesnt make it a bad movie. IM LOOKING AT YOU ROGER EBERT. Where is your appreciation of cinema as a thought provoker? Are you really just going to give National Treasure 2 3 stars? Really? Do you think that 3 Oscar winners are best used to teach kids lies and insult the native peoples of this country? Well that seems to be the goal of NT2.
Roger Ebert has a bizarre grading scale and a policy of bashing a movie because he didnt understand what he was seeing, aside from those two basic mistakes made by a veteran critic, he is right on the money. The acting DOES outshine the movie proper. But that can be said for most modern movies, which is usually due to the rift between a quality performance by an actor and the morass of bad ideas and shoddy producing to make the movie more appealing to the mass audience.
Revolver isnt a bad movie. It isnt a hard movie to understand. Hell, it isnt even a movie that requires an explanation as long as you arent a moron. But the bottom line is that if a PROFESSIONAL CRITIC like Roger Ebert is willing to hate something he doesnt understand, it is ok for the rest of America to hate it too. And believe me that Ebert HATED this movie.
So I guess the moral of this story is that Roger Ebert only likes bad movies if they dont make him use his brain at all. Like National Treasure 2. He didnt like that movie either but let it slide because it was less brain intensive.

If you go into this movie expecting Lock, Stock or Snatch, youll be severely disappointed. If you go in expecting a philosophically minded gangster film, then youre on the right track. Its one of those movies that you might not understand on first viewing and if a film gets me to think about it and question it for longer than 5 minutes, then its worth watching in my book. You might not agree with the Ritchies philosophy but at least hes doing something different and challenging. Props to him.

It is best if you don't know very much about this movie before you see it. And especially, don't listen to people that say they don't "get" it. What's there to get? It's your basic psychology 101 - game theory - shoot 'em up mash up. Jason Statham does a great job - it is a complicated storyline and he pulls it off. Guy Ritchie takes a lot risks and most of them work (even a strange anime sequence that seems to appear out of nowhere). Be on the lookout for one long masterfully edited sequence towards the end. I wish the UK version was available, it would explain a little more but I was still able to fill in the blanks.
