I cannot believe a person would write a review decrying the violence in a Quentin Tarantino movie, which is rated R and clearly explains it received this rating because of STRONG VIOLENCE AND LANGUAGE! The cover description says it is "raw" and "violent". What more could Netphlix have done? Anyway, "Reservoir Dogs" is great and it's my favorite Tarantino movie. "Pulp Fiction" may be more accomplished, but I seen this one first and it was a revelation. Tarantino didn't make a twee indie picture populated with quirky neurotics, he made one with guns and betrayal and some nifty twists and "film-within-a-film" moments. It's shot in color but it feels like black and white. It's a great dark comedy. I love this, however I should mention that it is pretty violent and the criminals, well, they use some salty language. They kind of act like criminals. If this offends you, DON'T RENT THIS! Please. Try "The Apple Dumpling Gang".

Tarantino's first film is still the only one I really like. Pulp Fiction is entertaining, but feels too much like an episode of Seinfeld set in the criminal underworld, and Kill Bill is a poorly-acted, cartoonish blood-bath. Reservoir Dogs, despite having an utterly meaningless title, is the only one of his movies that seems to have some class. The cast is first-rate, the non-linear story-telling structure is used to great effect, the story itself is tight and solidly entertaining, and the touches of dark humor throughout work well. I'll admit it's not for everybody though. While it's not nearly as gory as I had heard, it's still gory enough and profane enough to be off-putting to some people. You've been warned.

Reservoir dogs is a gritty crime drama masterpiece. Finally a filmmaker who can tell a story and actually make the characters stunningly brutal but ones we find ourselves silently rooting for. This brilliant cast of jewel robbing hoodlums share a witty razor-sharp dialogue that will leave you quoting lines well after the credits have rolled. Tarantino crafted this film with such an original style and vision that it alone set standards for a new generation of films to follow, often copied but never duplicated (well, maybe Pulp Fiction matches it). The soundtrack even made some horrible 70's music cool. This film is not for everyone, one torture scene in particular stands out as one that I know has turned many squeamish people off of the film entirely. For fans of good writing and acting and who are not thrown off by some cinematic violence, this film truly is a great piece of work.

There are also great dynamics between the characters and outstanding acting. I liked the nonlinear way the different episodes appear in the film. This is no less than a masterpiece by Tarantino, and it's not even his best film!

Tarantino proves that you don't need tons of money or mindblowing effects to make a wonderful movie. All you need is a good story. This one has all that a crime film needs - and more. It's violent in ways you don't expect. It's clever and amusing and full of crazy dialogue. (Obviously it's NOT a film for kids or anyone who can't take too much violence.) The opening scene is brilliant if you think about the characters and what they do during the film. The wonderful script makes all the difference.
