However the plot and premise (rats cooking food) was just no good. Also it felt like it dragged at a few points. Maybe I'll give it another look in a year or two and it will grow on me (like Cars).

I refuse to add this film--or rather, I can't, because it is not closed captioned/SDH. My deaf boyfriend cannot watch it. Disney has made it known they do this deliberately, so we will not be watching any of their films any time soon.

It's too bad, because I saw part of this movie, and I thought it was great based on what I saw.
The industry needs to think about how much money it loses by not making itsels accessible to the deaf/hard of hearing. They spend money on movies, too.
For shame!

It's definitely not to the level of The Incredibles in that it lacks the standout characters and there aren't as many witty great lines, but it's still entertaining nonetheless.

Avery well done movie but predictable and not as good as Meet the Robinsons. This film has gotton the most attention out of all animation films of 07 but it does not make it the best. I guess this one is the most family friendly but aside from it being a talking rat this film followed the same formula of every other Disney film. I did not expect it to be ground breaking but I thought it would be better written. Maybe it was just a victim of all the good reviews I have read about it but this film was nice and cute just not nearly as good as Meet the Robinsons or even The Simpsons Movie.

Standard CGI fare. Talking animal gets in trouble, does charming things, life lessons learned. The CGI is certainly great, but nothing beyond it's generation; I can only care so many times just how many 'individual hairs' the CG artists painstakingly place on a talking animal. I can also only care so many times how genuinely heartwarming filmmakers can make a talking animal be...come on, it's a talking animal, just about anyone can make it endearing! Is this really as far as we are going to go with this nearly limitless technology? Is talking animals all you guys can come up with? It's enjoyable enough for what it is, but it is what it is.

This one simply must be seen. I don't know what it is about Brad Bird, but he manages to put at least as much original characterization into everything he makes as Joss Whedon, but manages to do it successfully. His cartoons tend to have more realistic consequences to impulsive action than most live action flicks. This is no exception.
I'm pretty sure all of you know the plot to this one. Remy is fantastic. he has some of the most developed motivation of any animated character I've seen. He knows what he wants and he's willing to make sacrifices even before he's learned his lesson from the plot. There isn't really a flat character in this movie, except maybe Remy's father and Gusteau. Hell, I was even impressed by Janeane Garofalo and I like her to begin with!
I can't even put my finger on what makes his movies tick so well. Maybe it's because the worlds he sets up in can act as direct microcosms for political and social issues in ours without getting preachy. Maybe it's just because he can make rats and robots appeal on a human level that Michael Bay will never be able to achieve (understand?). Whatever it is, he's done it consistently for 3 films now. Disney, please give him Pixar.
Oh, and the animation and design is really stunning as well.

"Ratatouille" is quite imaginative and the quality of the drawing and animation can't be beat. It's well-voiced, too. There's a minimum of campy humor and pop references, too -- a good thing. The DVD is loaded with true "extras" like two related but separate animated shorts that were excellent and humorous along with the expected (and good) commentaries. The music (as well as the Dolby Digital sound) is superb.
