Summary of Rambo - First Blood 2

John Rambo (Sylvester Stallone) is doing hard time in jail when his former boss, Col. Troutman (Richard Crenna), offers him a deal. If Rambo travels to Vietnam to try to find the American prisoners of war, his criminal record will be expunged. Rambo takes the reconnaissance assignment and agrees not to get involved in any of the action. However, when his Vietnamese lover, Co Bao (Julia Nickson), is killed by American forces, Rambo forgets his promise and takes matters into his own hands.

First Blood Part II is generally considered the best of the trilogy. While the first movie was at least moderately realistic with a more serious tone, Part II is completely over the top and unbelievable. It cements Rambo's status as one of the quintessential 80s action heroes. And it sates every young male movie-goer's thirst for explosions, gunfire, and violence. Rambo is released from prison to undertake a secret mission aimed at finding POWs still left in Vietnam. He goes in with orders to take pictures and not engage the enemy. Since this is Rambo we're talking about, he does just the opposite. I'm not even sure he took the camera with him. He goes in shooting, fully intent on rescuing the POWs right then and there. Sadly, First Blood Part II trivializes the Vietnam War in a way that might offend a lot of people. And if you're not offended by that, maybe the stereotypical portrayal of the Vietnamese or the Russians might do it. I guess that's what people really though Russians were like at the time, so maybe the film is just a snapshot of American culture at the time. But seriousness aside, Rambo is a fun action hero. His superhuman aim and his near invulnerability make him the soldier every man wants to be. The plot is almost non-existent, but the shootouts and explosions are fantastic. How Rambo can shoot one arrow (explosive tipped or not) into a hut and cause the entire village to explode, I don't know. But I sure do enjoy watching it happen. The "love story" that gets thrown in as an aside is completely ridiculous to the point of being stupid, but when his female companion gets killed it only pisses Rambo off even more. What the heck. The end result is a maniac with a red headband and a huge survival knife rampaging in the jungles of Vietnam. Works for me.

An excellent action film.

In my opinion, this sequel is better than the first "First Blood" film. They are both great action movies and they very much alike, but I enjoyed "First blood 2" more. Perhaps it's because the famous images of Stalone in this film are the most... Read and rate it
