(NO SPOILER)
I am a film student and went to this movie with a few of my friends. The movie was well done with set design, costuming, and mostly the cinematography (though nothing out of the ordinary). The cast did well, but I would have like to see more diversity (aka look Persian). I did appreciate that this movie was kept clean enough to be a family film (no sex!!!).
However, my friends and I had to move to the back because we started laughing so hard due to the fact that this movie is Aladdin meets LOTR (ring-wraiths and all). I would only give it 2.5 stars because of all the similarities (though nothing is new under the sun), and the predictability of the writing. For example, without ever having played the game, there were multiple times when I (or my friends) would quote a line from the movie before it had even been said, or correctly guessed the next scene.

I had low expectations for this movie, and was pleasantly surprised. It's very entertaining, funny at times, Alfred Molina does a great supporting role, and Gemma Arterton makes you want to keep looking at the screen even if a dangerous animal just entered your house. Not just for kids (and not only because of Gemma Arterton :), this movie is for everyone.

Prince of Persia
This movie had very strong similarities (allusions) to many distinct things: the beginning is straight out of Aladdin, and the uncle is scar from lion king, they go into the foreign city looking for arms that don't exist (egh Iraq sound familiar), the plot involves a lot from cain and able and some other biblical references. The conclusion was expected but they're were some but few twists involved in the actual way that he "saved the day" it was kind of annoying as every time he got into a fight everything would go super fast and it was easy to loose track of what happened and was going on. Over all a pretty disappointing movie had little depth, but had a good message on brotherhood I guess in case you had young siblings maybe.

I’m always waiting for the summer to watch these kind of films. Just sitting in the movies, having a good time with the wonderful effects and scenery.

It’s summer, and yet again it’s time for epic-instant-hit flicks. I guess it’s made to compete Robin Hood, it’s got the same shticks. It’s of course visually amazing and expectedly poorly played out – few good people fighting vast and major bad ones for something big and great to save everyone. The cast is very good surprisingly – I’ve expected a better acting picks from Gyllenhaal and Kingsley, but for us viewers it’s a gift.

Prince of Persia
Prince of Persia was mediocre at best. There was one collosal flaw that brought down this film from excellence to mediocracy. That flaw was Disney. The movie had enough annoying qualities to it that it severely took away from it and made some parts that would have otherwise been great to me bland and almost unwatchable. Most unfortunate was that the viewer can clearly tell at several parts in the movie that the directors simply gave up on trying to make sense, even within their own logic... which is realy bad for a fantasy movie.
Furthermore, when she wasn't playfully bantering with the prince, the princess was unbearably annoying and it was impossible to care about anything that came out of her mouth. Also, her endless diologue about "her" destiny, "her" duties, "her" failures, and so on made her come off as selfish and irritating.
Luckily those parts, though often, are short and did not ruin the entire movie. There were some excellent parts and the protagonist's acrobatics was excellent. The character dynamics that was maintained from the game was entertaining and the film even had some adult humor, which was an excellent change for a Disney film. Dispite being a fan of the game, the twists that they made in the movie to the original plot were actually acceptable and even better in some parts.
Finally, the effects of the dagger were exceptional and it was nearly heartbeaking to see how little it was used. It definitely should have been used much more and incorporated into more fighting than simply to kill a group of snakes (which was the extent of it's application to combat in the movie).
This film will be easy to forgive and even permitted to be a rewatchable movie should it's sequel be what it's video game counter-part intends it to be. The sequel needs to be much darker and explore the side of the prince that becomes obsessed with being to rewrite his wrongs, which was lost in the movie. *****Spoiler Warning***** The death of the princess will hopefully facilitate the transition into the prince's dark side, which is necessary in his decision to slay the creator of the Sands of Time. If done correctly and allowed to be as dark as it should be, the climax of the movie, the twist of how the Sands of Time are mad, will undoubtably go down as one of the most memorable movie moments in history.
The movie was "Okay". It did not impress by any means, but it did do much better than expected compared to previous film adaptations of video games. Again, it did bring some fun acrobatics and character dynamics to the table and is likely an excellent movie for the family and especially younger boys ranging in ages 7 to 14. It could have done better, but didn't disapoint completely. So those who would like to treat their children to a fun, relatively family-friendly movie, it's a decent watch. To those considering purely as fans of the game, tred carefully, as you're likely to be disapointed.
