Brides and Predictability
The story in a nutshell: Perfect girl meets perfect boy, and because of a miscommunication and some misinformation they don't fall in love immediately, but instead later.
That pretty much summs up the story, and I don't think I left anything out....

Brides and Predictability
The story in a nutshell: Perfect girl meets perfect boy, and because of a miscommunication and some misinformation they don't fall in love immediately, but instead later.
That pretty much summs up the story, and I don't think I left anything out. So I guess you might like this story if you like romantic feel-good stories where everything is a little too perfect and convenient. Which I do by the way, but two hours of movie is stretching that amount of story too thin.
After the standing-in-the-rain scene it was obvious how the story was going to end, and the rest of the movie was just tedious. They sould have just kissed then and there and roll the credits, and it would have been much better movie.

PREDE & PREJUDICE: I have always loved watching movies starring KEIRA KNIGHTLEY, This is one of my favorite movies and I highly recommend it. KEIRA always give 110%, and her acting is always very convincing and spot on. I give this movie 5*****STARS.

I tried to go into this movie with an open mind. After all, it was going to be hard to accept differences between this and the definitive BBC version done several years ago starring Colin Firth. I knew the story would have to be compressed to fit...

I tried to go into this movie with an open mind. After all, it was going to be hard to accept differences between this and the definitive BBC version done several years ago starring Colin Firth. I knew the story would have to be compressed to fit into 2 hours. This didn't bother me. What did bother me was how the screenwriters not only didn't make the compression seamless (it was very obvious things were crammed together when they started adding key scenes in the middle of the night) but how they changed the characterisations I've grown to love. Wickham wasn't just a cad, he was completely out of line. He didn't go to Pemberley to seek out Georgiana's hand, he snuck around and used her governess to attempt to lure her away from her fortune and her brother. Making him commit such a lesser offense, made his offense to the Bennetts seem that much less and really ruined a key plotline to the story. As another reviewer stated, there was also the problem of the characterisation of Mr. Darcy. He was one-dimensional and flat. If he had any inner struggles about the class situation, you barely saw it. Bingley was made out to be a buffoon rather than a shy and engaging gentleman. Him loosing a sister was less an offense than the writers skipping over Caroline's offenses to Georgiana, totally making Miss Darcy another one-dimensional character. Finally, what was with the scene at the end? It seemed nothing more than an excuse to show the characters half-dressed. Poor taste indeed for a Regency Era romance!

This is a great story, so any production will recieve attention. I must agree, however, with other members posting in inferiority to the BBC production starring Jennifer Ehl and Collin Firth. (Commonly misidentified as being produced by A&E which later licensed it to be shown in America). This production contains much of the same calibre talent as the BBC production, but the length extension is necessary. The plot development seems rushed and the characters seem rude for abrupt reactions that should have been developed over time. The true beauty of the story is how events that take place between meetings of Elizabeth and Darcy plant and slowly develop their mutual respect and love. This version is so fast that I find myself caring little for the fancies of Knightley as she seems to fall in love too quickly and without proper reservation. Her character is this version behaves more like the BBC's Lydia than Elizabeth.
