I believe this film is about MENTAL ILLNESS. The parent is mentally ill, the world that is created from that illness is what we are witnessing. Precious' mother is suffering from undiagnosed phobias and illnesses, the hellish world that she has created is what we are witnessing through the eyes of her daughter. Because of the mother's illness she abuses her daughter, because of her low self esteem, Precious' mother (played by Mo Nique) allows incest to flourish in her home and then blames the incest on her daughter who is the victim. How Precious deals with the situation that she finds herself in is what this movie is all about.

Its been a while since I wanted to actually smack a character so much in a film. Tony Scott of the NY Times described this film best as a genuine piece of art.

Even though the plot is very graphic it is compelling to the heart to show a story that is true to itself and matains what the viewer wants. I think this is one of the best movies I have seen. I give it a 10 out of 10.
