To be totally honest, I actually rented this movie to see how bad it was, but I was pleasantly surprised. The concept is not original and the characters are not fleshed out very well, but dammit if this movie isnt fun and exciting! Even though the characters are pretty one-dimensional, you do grow to really like the core characters and you do care what happens to them. The special effects are spectacular, and the fact that they used all real sets makes a huge difference; it looks real because it actually is real! The exterior shots are all CGI but look very realistic, pretty much everything else was actually practical effects which is quite impressive and refreshing. This is a perfect rental movie: not quite good enough to own, but well worth watching if you didnt see it in the theaters.

A while into Poseidon I thought I might have made a mistake when I immediately dismissed it after seeing the trailer. A few minutes after that, I sat completely confident that my original views on the movie were dead-on. It's a disaster/blockbuster flick that doesn't quite live up to previous films in the genre. Although there are interesting actors in here, they couldn't save it from the lack of character development, some corny dialog, and some pretty bad storyline decisions. Who dies is pretty obvious, the small group contains big-name actors and a couple people you've never seen before, guess who dies? Also the death scenes I think were supposed to be emotional, problem is I never knew much about anybody to care if they lived or not in the movie (except Fergie and Emmy Rossum, who, let's face it, are good eye-candy). I gave it 3 stars, but I wouldn't say I "liked it", I just think it had enough to keep it out of the 2 stars pile.

A waste of time. Even the special efffects don't impress. The original is miles away from this one. You felt the jitters and the emotions in the original. Here you are like so when does this get over? Watch it on TBS -it will be there soon.

You can't help but notice that the director of this film has a thing about sea vehicles: after "Das Boot" and "The Perfect Storm" he chose to do a remake of "The Poseidon Adventure," which deals with a ship that turns upside down. About the movie...

You can't help but notice that the director of this film has a thing about sea vehicles: after "Das Boot" and "The Perfect Storm" he chose to do a remake of "The Poseidon Adventure," which deals with a ship that turns upside down. About the movie itself - I am a big fan of disaster movies and i thought the special effects were great. but in other aspects the film is mediocre and people who are not fans of the genre probably won't enjoy it.
