I love this movie! its one of the most hilarious movies of all time! and for anyone who doesnt find it funny obviously has no sense of humor! but overall i have to say its one of my favorites!

All in all, it wasn't bad. But, it seems like it's target audience were burnouts. I was under the impression it was a comedy with pot-heads not pot-heads who do comedy. I love Seth Rogan, but this movie didn't deliver.

I am a harsh judge of comedy, I find most of it to be thoroughly disappointing. While far from terrible, for me, this is just another severely overrated Apatow production. It is a complete mess, but occasionally incredibly hilarious. It started off well, and I felt that I was in for a treat but it quickly bogged down into an almost formulaic buddy action flick, with the 'action' being mostly superfluous and taking away from the stronger points of the film. Those being the writing, direction, and performances by Franco and the actor that portrays 'Red', the effeminate, gangster-posing, drug dealer. Seth Rogen is Seth Rogen and if you like him in his other leading roles, you'll probably like him in this. Personally, I think he needs to stay behind the camera and be the talented comedy writer that he is. Franco, on the other hand, has a future in comedy, as long as he makes intelligent role choices.
The main problem I had with this film and with the other Apatow films ('Sarah Marshall' excluded) is that there is a lot of stuff that someone with too much control thought was great but should have been edited out and saved for the deleted scenes on the DVD. If you thought 'Knocked Up' was decent but way too long and filled with too much crap to be called anything better then you know where I'm coming from. Bottom line, 'Pineapple Express' is a poorly edited hit or miss comedy, with the hits right on the mark, and the misses leaving you forgetting about the last hit and not caring about the next one.

I got some good laughs from this one and thought it was more good than bad, although there were a number of of bits that really got on my nerves...most of them involving loud and overwrought blasts of man-screaming, LOL. I'm quite a fan of stoner...

I'm quite a fan of stoner movies but this one didn't quite take me to that red-eyed, belly-aching happy place where the great ones dwell. James Franco is adorably endearing and totally steals every scene he's in though.

So I��m not the biggest fan of the myriad of Apatow produced comedies. For some reason they all seem like they do the same business and don��t differentiate from each other all that much. This movie though, felt different thanks mostly to director David Gordon Green and star James Franco. Franco is nearly unrecognizable in his role as the lovable drug dealer to Seth Rogen��s character. This isn��t your typical stoner comedy either. It��s also a buddy film and an action film. Generally when the two mix, the action portions are rather light and used mostly for a punchline. In this though, the action is actually quite good and while jokes are made, they are actually very funny and fit with the action. It isn��t a particularily raunchy movie either. There are still moments of raunch comedy but for the most part, really great stuff. The chemistry between the two leads is better than in most romantic comedies which now that I think about it, is kind of disturbing.

It is very funny at times. Franco is wonderful. But Rogen can only do Rogen. It should have been at least 20 minutes shorter.

Rogen is a lazy process server (dating a high school girl) and one day sees a murder while smoking the weed. The problem, the murderer is the weed source and knows who it has been distributed to - and all roads lead to Rogen and Franco. The movie then revolves around them running from the hit men and the weed source. So.. now that you know the story, is it any good? I watched this the day after being completely bored with Rogen in Zack and Miri - and to be honest, found him many times more interesting and watchable in this movie. He plays someone more real than his last few roles and actually is (if you can believe it) the smarter character in the movie. He comes across much funnier too, when he's trying to explain the fact that the car battery is dead or smashing his cell phone in the woods. Franco is just as funny as the always high dealer who isn't too quick on what's happening in reality. The movie starts off slowly for me then picked up the pace and humor by the time Dale and Saul get together. I was laughing quite a bit at the situations and their interactions, however I admit you're either going to love or hate this movie. The movie does get a little off course near the end with the asian attack and the underground base fight, it all just gets a little too long and really, I didn't care, I wanted the character interactions. Sure, it gets bogged down in some situations and some of it is certainly overly silly, but it's all pretty harmless fun and I'd recommend it if you can enjoy a stoner movie.

Rarely do I even like these types of movies or the genre of movies that this would fall under (I guess they'd be called the 'cult' sort) but this movie was rather engaging! There is still that degree of silly/stupid that is so popular these days...

Rarely do I even like these types of movies or the genre of movies that this would fall under (I guess they'd be called the 'cult' sort) but this movie was rather engaging! There is still that degree of silly/stupid that is so popular these days but, if you can believe it, it is much more intelligent! Yes, that sounds quite oxymoronic, but the intelligence is in the originality of the story. I won't go into a long winded summary of what this film is about because it is all in the summary already given to you on this page. All you really need to know is: a guy witnesses a murder (not a spoiler!) and this sends him and his marijuana/pot/dope dealer on a run for their lives. This film is laugh-out-loud funny with a great cast and a lot of action to boot! Highly recommended. 4 stars. 1/10/09
