Outsourced, 2006

How is it that movies about a culture clash always must portray the clashing cultures with the standard superficial stereotypes? Outsourced is not better at that. It makes up for the base frame by offering a nice love story.

This is one of those great films that you would never see unless you either knew somebody who saw it, or were recommended it by NetFl1x. I am in the latter category, and must say that finding gems like this movie are the best reason to be a NetFl1x member. Nice insight into Indian culture, though even I, as an American with no firsthand knowledge of India, realize that they may have gotten several things quite wrong. But it was an enjoyable movie with likeable characters.

I have seen a lot of movies that try to get you to feel the cultural shock of foreign (non-Westernized) lands. This one actually did it for me. I actually was shocked at the India I experienced in this movie. I have seen many travel shows and other movies involving India, and none of them culturally shocked me like this one. I would have given it 5 stars but there were too many things that were unbelievable such as the allowing of the Indian workers to not adapt to "American English" and also the forwardness of the female lead "Asha". While they enriched the plot, they took away the reality of the movie.
