Outland, 1981

Hmm, not altogether that exciting for a space flick. Yes, as dozens of reviews have said, it's a knock off of High Noon, with a clock even counting down to zero for Connery's fate. Connery is the sole cop defending what the law stands for against drugs being sold on a mining station. Connery is good in his role but the story never creates the tension. In spite of being the single person on the entire planet doing the right thing, you never get the sense that hes in danger. Boyle is initially decent as a menacing site manager, but over time he feels like a pushover and becomes unimpressive as a threat. The effects are adequate but I can't say I ever really felt like he was on another planet let alone in space. I mean, here they are mining the planet Io way in the future - and the primary weapon of choice is a shotgun with shells still? Huh? You kidding me? See it for Connery, but don't expect anything great and you'll be satisfied possibly.
