Think "28 Days Later" in the ocean. I'm not talking about zombies, I'm referring to the documentary-like, grainy feel of both movies. One might wonder how you could possibly get an hour and a half out of a movie like this. Well, the first 45 minutes they are preparing for the trip, going out to the dive spot etc. This movie will have you on the edge of your seat the entire time. The action is completely unpredicatable and very well scripted. Just when you think that the movie is getting slow, something happens! I was very impressed with the way it was made on such a limited budget.
*WARNING* There is a scene in this movie towards the beginning where the female character is seen from the front, lying in the bed, completely naked. This is the most graphic nude scene that I have ever seen in a movie and undoubtedly why this movie received an R rating. There is little to no violence in this movie and some language. The nudity, however, is what gives this movie such a high rating. Without the nudity, I doubt this movie would have received a rating as high as PG-13.
Overall Open Water was an excellent movie. The nude scene was unnecessary and left out, this movie would have been open to younger audiences. I almost feel that the filmmakers were fishing for a higher rating to make people think the movie was going to be good. Perhaps they think that noone would want to see a PG rated shark movie (HELLO? Jaws). Such is the film industry I suppose.

The movie is blatently low budget, has very poor acting, and feels slow to develop. The ending is rather disheartening and you are left to wonder what all happened after the fact. I'd say it's worth a watch, you may find it better than I did.
