Departures, 2008

Through the dignity of Japanese burial rituals, lovingly administered to those who have died, each person portrayed in this emotionally touching movie comes to a personal realization and acceptance of themselves and those who they love or have loved. Subtitles were almost unnecessary as each scene conveyed more than what mere words could convey. The movie would have received 5 stars but for unnecessary scenes of Daigo playing his childhood cello from various hillsides; they were over-the-top!
