'NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH'...A good movie, well written, well acted and directed. This is obviously the Valerie Plame story by another name. Asking the question should a journalist give up their source for outing a CIA agent, or should they keep quiet and just go to jail and not give up the source? To out a CIA agent and then sit on the source is narcissistic, self serving, and selfish is a view held by most people. Everyone this story touches has to pay a fortune in legal fees, and their lives are never the same afterwards. In this movie I think at the end you would have to say it was not worth it. Just as the real life event that was the inspiration for this story. Was the wreckage worth it? So many careers destroyed, so many lives destroyed. This is not a (Everything is going to be alright) story. When it is over the only thing that is left is the wreckage. Matt Dillon kicked butt in this movie, Kate Beckinsale was fantastic, Alan Alda was great as was Vera Farmiga, and Angela Bassett this was a great ensemble. Nothing But The Truth earns 3***Stars.

A movie that starts off solidly and then loses its direction and point along the way. A story of a woman witholding her source when she reveals that someone is a CIA agent - all very loosely based off real life event - then deals with the consequences. The movie starts off solidly with both emotion and some drama of her both confronting the CIA agent and the realization of what she faces if she won't obey the court orders. Dillon plays a very good confident smug government lawyer who knows he has the power on his side as well as the leverage. All the actors do a fine job, it's however the direction and perhaps the story that loses its energy halfway through. Once she's in jail, you feel less like she's emotionally distraught and more like time is zipping by and it's no big deal. The story bounces around between characters quite a bit and then it all promptly wraps up in an ending that's neither satisfying or all that clear. Either way, it's okay but not great.

Well done, good acting - almost a really good movie. But it takes a "ripped from the headlines" story. Then it sensationalizes to the breaking point. And it doesn't add up to anything like the "truth." Its trying to be a serious comment on important issues. Instead it veers off into a overwrought tearjerker.
