Natural Born Killers, 1994

This film is a disappointment on nearly every level. Start with the fact that Quentin Tarantino's screenplay was distorted beyond recognition by Oliver Stone. Time and again during this movie, I found myself wondering how much better things probably were in Tarantino's original version. This movie also proves that a film can be edited to death. Instead of making a film with 3000 or whatever meaningless cuts, Stone might've done better to try a long take or two. The editing seemed pretentiously incoherent to me. And what may be worst of all is that two talented actors, Robert Downey Jr. and Tommy Lee Jones, spend the last half hour of the film locked in an intense battle for the world championship of over-acting. Whoever told them to just scream every one of their lines with no emotional differentiation should've been fired. I think this film has a decent message about the media and Harrelson and Lewis are good, but there's so much wrong with it and worst of all, it violated my chief commandment--don't bore me.
