This movie could have been so cool. I felt like this movie was trying to build to something that wasn't there. The chemistry between Ben and Abigail was strained at best. Riley gave a bit of comic relief, but other then that this movie was a yawner....

This movie could have been so cool. I felt like this movie was trying to build to something that wasn't there. The chemistry between Ben and Abigail was strained at best. Riley gave a bit of comic relief, but other then that this movie was a yawner. I will give a nod to Sean Bean as the only decent acting job in this movie.
As this movie is aimed to families with older children, there is really nothing inappropriate here.
What a waste of time. I applaud Disney for having two family-oriented films in the theaters over Thanksgiving. But while the Incredibles was a movie I could recommend to anyone, National Treasure should be recommended to noone.

National Treasure was blasted by many critics as a nonsensical, action-mystery wannabe. For the most part they are right, but this movie was just good ol' plain fun to watch. To sum up the unusual plot, the movie follows Ben Gates (Nicolas Cage) as a man devoting his life to figuring out the family mystery that was told to him as a boy about the largest treasure in the world, how it was hidden by some of the founding fathers fo the U.S., and how his great great grandfather was given a single clue to find and protect it.
I won't give away any more of the predictable story, but Ben does go on quite an adventure to find the treasure. It really follows the usual action flick formula: he has a sidekick, he meets a girl and falls in love with her, and he is met with many insurmountable obstacles and always seems to get past them. But that formula has been around for a reason, and when you add big production company money to it, you get a fun movie to watch.

I enjoyed the movie, although I felt that it began to drag, and I was watching the clock near the movies end. Once the movie was done, I watched the Extras on the dvd, there are a couple of good ones about real-life treasure hunters, but then I found the "Kiddie section" of the extras. Single-handedly, this section ruined the movie for me. The games are so childish and easy to play that you begin to realize that this is still a Disney movie. So, watch the movie, skip the extras, and you'll be good.

Its a live Treasure Hunt.Nicolas Cage is excellent a dn so is Diane Kruger. It has its twist and turns and keeps you at the edge of the seat.

It's fun and exciting. Sure, it's pretty unbelievable, implausable, etc etc. But it's one of the few movies in recent memory that made me feel like I had been truly transported to a world where even peril was fun, and adventure was a virtue.

My nine year-old daughter asked for this movie, and I was surprised as I thought it would be over her head or scary. Turns out it's a pretty good family movie that is very reminiscent of the Indiana Jones trilogy, with a fair amount of the more modern code-breaking and treasure-hunting from the Da Vinci code thrown in. Our seven year-old and my wife enjoyed it, too, so if you are tired of the Pixar animated fare for family movie night, give this a try.
