4/10Disappointing
Despite a great director in Werner Herzog, a cast of seasoned actors, and the on-board inspiration of producer David Lynch, ¿MY SON, MY SON¿ is a real stiff. Lacking action, cohesion, and characters to care about, the film tries to tell the story of a young man whose depression slips into psychosis and who kills his mother with a sword. He takes refuge in his house with two hostages as the police and SWAT teams try to coax him out. Meanwhile, his fiance and a friend tell the story in flashbacks. The script tries to tie in with the ancient myths of Orestes, who killed his mother to avenge her slaying of his father. In this, it fails. Nearly unwatchable, the film is a mess of less-than-telling flashbacks leading to a ho-hum climax. Amazingly, a ¿making of¿ extra on the DVD reveals that the film is actually based on a true story of matricide. If only it were half as interesting as you¿d think it would be from Herzog¿s ruminations in the DVD extra.

disappointing
From a movie that combines the talents of both David Lynch and Werner Herzog I expected much more. The two masters of the weird produced a movie that wasn't as good or as weird as you would expect from these two to produce.
