One of my all-time favorite comedies. Like Airplane!, Murder by Death is one of those spoofs that throws so many jokes at you in rapid succession, that even when one falls flat, you barely notice because you're already laughing at the next one. This movie had so many things that appealed to me, chief among them being it's phenomenal cast. Alec Guinness, Peter Falk, Peter Sellers, David Niven, Maggie Smith, James Coco, and even a young-ish James Cromwell are some of the most talented entertainers of the 20th century and each had plenty of moments to shine here. Falk, in particular, steals the show. As a parody of one of my favorite sub-genres of film, the Agatha Christie-style murder mystery, MBD puts the similarly-structured Clue to shame, but don't bother trying to get wrapped up in the plot. It's not going to make any sense, nor is it supposed to. Just enjoy the silliness.

Great parody of detectives
"Murder by death" is a kind of movie, which can't be rated simply good or silly. It contains both intelligent humor and silly. If you're a fan of detective stories, murders and investigations, and you don't take it too seriously - it's something for you. The acting is on a high level - magnificent Alex Guiness as a blind butler, Peter Falk and David Niven among known detectives... it just had to be well acted. What's more - the music is very well matched. Dave Grusin was able to compose quite illustrative soundtrack. But the real value of this movie is its overall expression, that no other detective movie has ever made.
