Definitely a kids movie, and I can't think of any reason why they wouldn't like it. It's all bright and noisy and cheerful, it's the equivalent of popcorn and candy all rolled up into a smile. For adults, the movie is okay. There's absolutely no explanation of any history or background into any of the characters or the "magic" or much of anything to be honest. If you simply take the movie for face value, those missing elements shouldn't bother you. However, some of the stereotypical aspects of Portman's character did sort of bother me in that it was completely predictable. Batemen's character was much the same - see it coming a mile away. Overall, it's a pretty good kids movie and an okay adult movie.

Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium is right about so much that is wrong with the world. It's just like the phrase "I don't wanna grow up". The movie is the longer version of that phrase, and its message is that people should have fun no matter what age they may be. This movie certainly was fun, with great acting by Natalie Portman and Jason Batemen. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was not half as dumbed down as the original trailers made it out to be. I would watch this again many times, because it really encapsulates this other world that you'd want to be a part of - Mr. Margorium's magnificent toy shop. A true modern family classic, very impressive.

*SPOILERS* What an awful movie. Milked from numerous other films, two-dimensional and boring. Who are all of these characters? We simply don't get to know them. There wasn't a single laugh coming from the audience. What is the purpose of this film?...

*SPOILERS* What an awful movie. Milked from numerous other films, two-dimensional and boring. Who are all of these characters? We simply don't get to know them. There wasn't a single laugh coming from the audience. What is the purpose of this film? It's a toy-store without proper bookkeeping and the toys move and/or live or so. The girl can't have worked there that long. Who worked there before? Why does the owner/magician suddenly decide to pop his clogs? Who is this man in the first place? Why does the store go in a strop, just because he'd had enough after 113 yrs? Why did it HAVE to be Dustin? Was he needed for the goodwill of this film? Who were all these people at his funeral? Too many questions, too little answers, too much energy to waste on this to find out.
