I enjoyed Costner as the bad guy. He reminded me so much of what you would hear in the news if he was caught. "I would have never guessed it, he was so quiet and polite..." said by some little old lady neighbor holding a poodle. I loved "Marshall" as his companion. The stilted talking and pauses as Marshall conversed with him were well done. I agree with another review that the middle dragged on a touch but the twist and turns were worth the wait in most cases. I could easily watch this again, personally I found it rather well done.

Dear reader, Until March 12th 2010 this was an actual real review. Because the new design that NetfIix has implemented for movie detail pages removed information about what our friends rated movies, as well as top 10 lists and the ability to send movie notes, I've decided to move my reviews elsewhere. I see no reason to supply NetfIix with free content when NetfIix does not support its users. To see my reviews click on my profile picture to the left and follow the link there to the NetfIix Community. If NetfIix decides to reverse its stance on this issue, I'll happily bring my reviews back, but until then, this note will take its place. I apologize for the inconvenience, dear reader, and hope you'll forgive this non-review.

It's like the entire 3rd season of Dexter, only much shorter and not as entertaining. The backstory of Demi Moore's character is unnecessary and boring. Dane Cook successfully "portrays" a douchebag loser.

Well, I liked this movie. Not a lot of good low key suspense movies out at all, and Costner gives his typical dead-pan emotional performance which lends itself quite well to this character. Hurt in his role (won't give it away) is great and plays off of Costner well. Cook is good in a non-funny role, and Moore is good as well, however her role is really more or less insignificant. The movie winds along nicely and plays out the story while keeping you wondering what's happening and what is going to happen. There's no real gore which is nice, but there could have been a little more tension building in some scenes as it did get a little dogged down in dialogue in the latter half after setting everything up. However, if you can take a relatively slow moving (in some parts) thriller, it's worth the watch.

A very dark psychological thriller that is better than you might expect. Costner actually pulls off playing this part very well and you watch the movie waiting to see what will happen the very next scene. Demi Moore and the rest of the cast play great parts but the credit here goes to the writer of Mr. Brooks. I really enjoyed the fact that I watch alot of movies and this still threw a few curveballs at me. Don't read too much about this film and watch it and you'll see a man who seems to have it all but is a serial killer who is fighting his instinct to kill.

A masterwork. Not only does this film thrive on a healthy plot and batch of characters, but it works on multiple thematic levels. As you are watching, consider these themes: addiction, heredity, obsession, and identity, and how the character's actions play into these themes and how these themes interact with each other, both in the film and in your own life. Bear in mind a character doesn't have to be doing drugs to be making a statement about addiction, or giving fingerprints for it to be about identity. Repetitive actions, the passing on of traits, the inability to stop doing things, an attempt to evolve...these things recur over and over throughout the film. And even without these amazingly deft brushstrokes, this film is visually stunning with an amazing score, a great performance by Costner, Helgenberger, Hurt, Moore and (gasp!) Dane Cook. Creepy, lovely, insightful and technically astute, I can't possible encourage you enough to see this film. Costner was quoted shortly after production wrapped as saying this was designed to be the first of three films. It's doubtful there will be more, as the film didn't perform at the box office, but I can't think of a sequel I'd want to see more.
