Millions, 2004

Millions isn’t another Hollywood cookie-cutter movie that was only green-lit to make a quick buck. The story follows to young brothers who find a duffel bag full of cash. Whatever they decide to do with it, they only have a few days because at the start of the new year, the Euro becomes the official British currency. It’s not often that you see a movie that stars two children that’s not made for children. While kids can certainly enjoy a movie like Millions, so can adults. It’s a heart-warming story that should bring a smile to most everyone’s face. It’s sweet, without being too over-the-top and unbelievable. But in the end, I just didn’t care. Call me cold-hearted, but I despise children. Millions just isn’t my kind of movie. The children put on some pretty decent performances, considering their ages. I fully expected Millions to melt down near the end, turning into a sappy, tries to hard to make you cry kind of movie. It never did, and it scores points for that. Danny Boyle also scores points for his unique and exciting visual style. This is one director whose next project I’m really looking forward to. Even though Millions didn’t quite do it for me, I loved the look of the film. If Boyle focuses his growing talent on a subject or story that actually interests me, it’s a sure fire winner.
