Bien vu !!
J'ai été très agréablement surpris par ce film. Une interprétation remarquable de Sean Penn, une musique originale signée Danny Elfman, maitre d'œuvre en la matière, et une réalisation de Gus Van Sant très efficace ainsi que le scénario impeccablement ficelé font de ce film une réussite incontestable. Un très bon moment de cinéma

Milk had to be a great movie. Anything less would have been an insult to Harvey Milk and everything he fought to change. It had to be true to the story, true to the people in it and, most importantly, true to the people still fighting for equal rights in the LGBT community.....Penn is never afraid to take a risk, and he nails this performance. The cast around him is also brilliant, especially James Franco as Scott, Milk's only true love.
It's unfortunate that Milk won't make much money at the box office in its first wide-release weekend. American audiences aren't ready for this one, yet...... Five stars

Biopics and political dramas are not my usual fare, but even I can see that this is a tremendous film on so many levels that it's barely possible to scratch the surface in a short review. Sean Penn is perfect in the lead role. His performance is such that within minutes the actor vanishes into his character completely. Penn does more than recreate Harvey Milk -- he resurrects him. The story is compelling even though we know the ending. The screenplay is witty, nuanced and powerful and provides the details of the story that we never knew or might have forgotten. Josh Brolin breathes life into the neurotic, self-absorbed Dan White in a way that creates a perfect counterpoint to the outgoing, confident Milk. The film illustrates starkly, too, how little things have changed in some regards, how the same old fight is still going on some 30 years after the assassination of Harvey Milk, and how that fight isn't about this minority or that minority, but that it's about all of us. All of the "usses." The Bryants and the Briggs of the world are still with us... but so is Harvey Milk's legacy.

I enjoy the work of Sean Penn, Josh Brolin and Gus Van Sant but this film took it to another level. MILK was better than expected and is a must to be nominated for Best Picture at the 09 Oscars. I really don't want to give too much away but even if you know the story of Harvey Milk, this film brings to life his spirit and is at times heartfelt, exciting, and downwright heartbreaking to see what happened to this man who fought with such passion. I recommend this to those who enjoy a well made movie and who have an open mind.
