Am I the only person that thinks this was the worst movie ever. Very dissappointing performance by George Clooney. It appeared to be a good cast but ended up being but nothing more than a waste of film.

It's sort of "Erin Brockovich" by way of John Grisham, then put in a time machine and produced in the 1970's--an era filled with this kind of film--dense, complex, and adult.

I enjoyed Micheal Clayton and I'm only a film lover but first time director Tony Gilroy confused me with his style more than once. The entire cast was first rate and the plot was interesting but something was missing from the film preventing it from being a great film. Like I said I'm just a fan of movies and have no idea how to make it better but it lacked urgency at some points. Could if have been something as small as the music? I don't know but Micheal Clayton was fascinating at times and at others just dropped off and was very scattered. I can see why others might love this film and I'm not saying it was bad I'm jsut stating that it was not too far off from being even better than it was. I've been several screening of movies which are incomplete and this film has that feeling of not being completly finished. Go figure this film being nominated for Best Picture in the Oscars and a truly great film like In the Valley Of Elah gets overlooked.

I'm not really sure what makes this by-the-numbers corporate thriller worthy of being a best picture nominee. It was likeable, sure, but aside from a few good supporting performances from Tom Wilkinson and Tilda Swinton, it was remarkably unremarkable. Clooney was good, but not best actor good. The plot was standard John Grisham boilerplate: little guy takes on evil corporation, with lots of cover-ups, wiretapping, and assassination attempts thrown in, topped off by an ending we've seen so many times before that it would be too cliched even for a tv legal drama. There's just nothing new here. The acting and competent direction make this above average as a thriller, but I found it severely lacking as an Oscar contender. I can think of several other films from this year more deserving of that nomination.

As far as law-firm thrillers go, this is as good as it gets. It has the nerve-wracking twists and turns of, say, 'The Firm', but the life-lesson super-philosophical voice-overs of 'Trainspotting', along with the dark, sleek production value of 'Unfaithful' or 'Signs'. Everything about the film is to be enjoyed. As always, Clooney is a joy to watch.
