Lucas, 1986

Pretty nice movie. It's pretty average as movies go. Lucas meets Maggie, who has just moved to town. Maggie loves tennis, and Lucas loves Insects and Classical music, and despite their age difference(Lucas is 14 and Maggie is 16) they quickly strike up a very good friendship. When school starts Maggie Meets A handsome football player, who unlike the stereotypical football player of teen movies, is kind and caring. She quickly winds up dating him, breaking him and his longtime girlfriend Elise up in the process, and Breaking Lucas's heart. This movie is okay, but unlike most teen movies of the 80's it lacks emotion. The only two scenes of real emotion aren't too convincing, and several scenes which should be emotional really aren't. The Characters of Lucas and Maggie are likeable, and his goofy sidekick/friend(ben?) has a few good scenes. The Character of the black haired girl with a crush on Lucas (The girl in the preview shot here, although it's the actress portraying Lydia in Beetle Juice, rather than the character in this movie) is utterly forgettable. She does nothing to move the plot along, and the dialogue she has is rather pointless. The movie would have been just the same without the addition of her character, anyway, it's worth watching on a night is you need something to watch. 6-1/2 /10
