Scenes come back to me vividly after years of not seeing this and each time I watch it I think, "Oh no, this isn't really going to be the rewatchable type" And I'm always wrong. James Mason is terrific. Say what you want about Dr. Strangelove and Pink Panther but Peter Sellers was never better than in this classic. Never. He made Clare Quilty come to life like no one else could. Clare Quilty, perhaps the strangest character I've ever seen in film Funny, sad, creepy, suspenseful, tragic. Opening scene is a Kubrick masterpiece. As great as everyone seems to think Space Odyssey 2001 was/is, how many people really know what the heck is going on in the latter part of movie? Must have been the year of popular LSD trips. When the creator of the story, Arthur C. Clark, was asked what the last part of the book was about, he didn't know either! Lolita, Clockwork Orange and The Killing (great noir) are all superior Kubrick films. 2001 is good but very overrated. The "New Lolita?" Pretty much trash.

Of course, the story by Nabokov is still what transfixes the most, and early Kubrick camera work (and trademark focuses) only serve to enrich all these other elements. Students of American cinema should not (and probably haven't) missed this one.

This movie is disgusting. There should not be movies made to glorify pedophilia, really revolted upon watching it. A sick man wrote the book, and it takes a sick man to enjoy this movie!!
