This was a very interesting movie to watch. It was really funny but at the same time very strange. Its about a really dysfunctional and unhappy family that goes on an adventurous road trip so that the youngest daughter Olive can compete in the Little Miss Sunshine competition.Would definitely recommend.

Real characters make this a winner
My wife actually saw this movie before I got a chance to. She saw it at a film festival and just would not stop talking about it. So needless to say, the hype factor was quite high. I worried for nothing. This is one of the funniest, most truthful character movies I've seen. Every character brings some heavy baggage to the screen. This is the quintessential dysfunctional family. The entire cast was outstanding but Steve Carell and Alan Arkin steal the show for me. The ending is reminiscent of Napoleon Dynamite in its awesomeness.

I originally rated this four stars, but after a few months to reflect (plus three additional viewings) I have decided this is a bona fide Great Movie. The entire cast plays a wide range of types and emotions; especially Kinnear, Breslin and Dano....

I originally rated this four stars, but after a few months to reflect (plus three additional viewings) I have decided this is a bona fide Great Movie. The entire cast plays a wide range of types and emotions; especially Kinnear, Breslin and Dano. Alan Arkin is pretty static but his character is amazing. The story is sappy-sweet, but so what? Feel good for awhile, why don't ya?

Delightful.
Great acting, good character development, and great momentum. Even the VW Bus performs beautifully. A good PG-13 film about family -- if that makes sense.

almost perfect
one of my favorite movies ever. it has it all - it's funny, smart, a real feel good film. a first for the directors, they did a wonderful job with this break-out indie.
