A brilliant combination of satire, romance, and paranoia that makes you believe your happiness is worth fighting for. I even found charm in the way it was a bit too far-fetched at times and how it didn't end the way I expected or wanted it to.

Ugh... a waste of Kate Winslet's talents. She's amazing in this movie, but unfortunately, the movie is very hard to like. There isn't a single character to sympathize with (the closest thing to a likable character is a creepy conviceted sex offender!), the story leaves many characters undeveloped and unresolved, there are some bizarre choices by the director in terms of dramatic devices...
In addition, the film (at least as was shown at Telluride Film Festival) is about 30 minutes too long.
The most annoying of those dramatic (comedic?) devices is the narrator. Yes, a narrator, who comes on to explain character motivations that are all typically obvious or would be with better writing. It just doesn't work for me... it's definitely an attempt at some sort of comedic device, but it doesn't work. It just feels condescending. It's not even consistent - the narrator is there for the first 30 minutes, then gone for a while, then comes back near the end. It completely takes you out of the movie in a jarring way. At the end (don't worry, no spoiler), the narrator actually tells you the completely obvious moral of the story. It felt so condescending... like the director wanted to make sure that us dumb viewers got the point, so he actually reads it to you. UGH, give me a break.
And the worst scene is what seems like a hastily added book club scene that doesn't even fit with the story, but is there just to let the characters discuss a book to point out to the viewer that this movie is also about that same story! Puh-lease... it would have been like having the characters in West Side Story start singing "this is just like Romeo & Juliet, don't you get that you dumb audience!"
Bad story, bad filmmaking, some serious editing needed... it can't be saved by some great acting.

A FILM YOU WONT SOON FORGET ONCE YOU VIEW IT...
An adult film that deal with the difficult topic of adultry and children and the consequences. You feel like you are watch a documentary instead of a film. This film in some ways has the feel of the movie Crash and should have been given the same respect. While you my not relate to the characters you do feel for them. This is a thinking person's film and those who are happily married with children would benefit from seeing this film. This will show you what COULD happing if you make different choices. The other subplot involving a sex offender living in a small community is spellbinding and heart-breaking at the same time. Looking back now I would pick this film as the top film of 06 if I even knew it exisited in 06. Watch it and experience it for yourself. I love that Kate Winslet!

It is these yearnings that cause the nightmares and that nudge us (day after same day) to do the things that we will percieve as ruining our lives. 'Little Children' will hold these things up to you for inspection, beg you to see yourself in them. Yourself...or your husband, asleep beside you, or getting ready for work in the flourescent-lit bathroom.

"Little Children" is a humorous, engaging drama of young adults with families whose life in suburbia is not measuring up to their dreams. The adults are really the little children of the title. There's a nice symmetry in the conflicts just about every one of the characters face -- even the sex-offender neighbor with mother problems and a misplaced desire for kids. The incidents are sharply observed and the roles believable. You'll like the characters and the way it all plays out.

Awesome!
I am discovering more and more that if Kate Winslet is in the film, the film will be really really good! She picks such great scripts and stories. This one is a must see about a lonely housewife who has an affair. WATCH THIS MOVIE!
