This beautifully told and finely crafted film is one of my favorites by master storyteller John Sayles. Many viewers are polarized in their opinion of Sayles' most unconventional choice in this film, but he made it deliberately and has bluntly stated in several interviews that it reflects his idea of what the entire film is about. The Alaskan setting and cinematography are gorgeous, the score/soundtrack seamlessly supportive. David Strathairn, one of my favorite character actors, is excellent here in a rare leading role. Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio surprised me by doing all her own singing, and left me quite favorably impressed. Highly recommended for those who love a complex, multi-layered, people-focused story with excellent characterization, who aren't frustrated by sedate pacing, and are willing to set their expectations aside. 03.08.09

Not bad at all
the beginning is a bit lame but it gets much better later. from a relationship drama it takes a turn into some kind of a suspense thriller movie. I liked that. but the ending is frustrating.
