An odd flic that, although painfully slow at times, managed to keep me fascinated from start to finish. Be sure & watch the Swedish version with subtitles as the English dubbing is terrible.

Don't expect to be blown away, this one is understated and haunting. The contrasts between the characters are nicely noted, the drama moving, the cinematography elegant. It's also quite bloody, so there's something there for everyone.

I generally don't love vampire movies. I can't quite say why, but I think it's that I've never really found vampires all that frightening. This film, on the other hand, has an underlying intensity and melancholy that is brilliantly handled, totally compelling.
I thought the story was well plotted and suspenseful. Eli and Oskar have this very mature, complicated relationship. On one hand, it's incredibly dark; on the other, it's so genuine, pure, beautiful and simple. It's a really well-drawn love story.
The violence -- there's not much "slasher" action, so if that's what you want -- a constant barrage of torture-porn like death -- I would advise looking elsewhere. Which is not to say that there aren't any kills. There are a number of kills -- and they are quite interesting, I'll say that much, especially the ending (which I will not spoil, hah!) I think the space between the kills -- the waiting -- is what drives so much of the tension of the film, and kudos to the director/writer/producer for recognizing that and going with it.
It's visually mesmerizing. So many cool shots and angles.

Mesmerizing. The slow pacing and stark settings make this film very "Swedish," but its the reductive sensibility created by its director that makes it a new favorite. Highly recommended.

There is something wrong with the vocal track. It can still be enjoyed in the subtitled version, but it's kind of like watching a silent movie - all the sound effects are there and music, but when people talk, no words. Every so often a line or two of Swedish dialogue does occur, but mostly it's silent. For awhile I thought everyone was a vampire communicating telepathically or something!

I have not seen the subtitled version but I saw the dubbed version and it is HORRENDOUS. Perhaps I would have liked the movie had I seen the subtitled since I'd heard the movie was so great. I hate dubbed movies and this one did not disappoint in...

This is a great movie! The way it was shot, the story, and especially the two children actors were all amazing in my opinion. This is such a different take on a vampire movie, I truly loved it.

This is the second vampire movie I saw this week and both treat their subject vastly different. While sharing some of the same plot elements of the recently popular film and book series Twilight, the two films could not be more different. This is a quiet and calculating horror film the likes of which have not been seen since Kubrick��s The Shining. The horror elements do not often come into play but when they do, it��s terrifying. Here is a movie that treats their vampires without a shred of camp or Gothic romance. In this way, it��s one of the most ��realistic�� portrayls of vampires ever brought to screen. They do not become hideous beasts or have retractable fangs. They are so realistically portrayed that you��d almost think they might actually be living among us. Again, the child actors in this project a deepness and sense of wisdom that you don��t often get to experience in actors this young.
