To Americans, the idea of having a maid is relatively uncommon, and except for the very most wealthy, the practice of having a live-in "servant" to do everything, has been unheard of since the Depression. But in Spain apparently, a university professor and a layabout husband (family riches perhaps) wealthy enough to have such a 24/7 maid. (Also lots and lots of kids.) But they are a genuinely nice family, polite and generous to the maid Raquel, not a horrible snobbish bunch by any means. After about 20 years with the family, Raquel is a rather simple woman, not well-educated, around 40, and feels somewhat sheltered by her existence, to the point of driving off assistant maids from her territiory, sometimes quite comically. But there is a serious side of the story too, as a new-style younger assistant maid, with different ideas about freedom and self-assertion, opens up Raquel to a whole new world of feeling and possibility. It makes for a fine dramedy, with a bit of class consciousness about the haves and have-nots of this world, and building respect among them. 7-10
