Summary of La ligne blanche

Jean is a highly regarded theatre actor, but he has been leading a dissolute life.  Separated from the mother of his son Sylvain, he devotes all of his time to his work, alcohol and women.  Sylvain, having just attained adolescence, feels the need to get to know his father better.  On impulse, father and son run away to stay with an old friend of Jean, Bob the American, who lives on an out-of-the-way ranch.  Here, Jean and Sylvain struggle awkwardly to understand one another.
