The disappointing fact is that with this cast and setting they could have made quite a good derivative against the odds sports feel good movie. Because of their insistence on copying plot points from an 80s movie in a completely different setting/context they end up with this tepid pointless, plotless mess ... bleh

But still a good movie for the entire family. I was missing a few "key" scenes from the original. I mean come on, A Karate Kid movie without the wax on wax of part? Or the scene at the end with Miyagi and the coach of the rival karate school? Maybe...

But still a good movie for the entire family. I was missing a few "key" scenes from the original. I mean come on, A Karate Kid movie without the wax on wax of part? Or the scene at the end with Miyagi and the coach of the rival karate school? Maybe if I saw this movie tabula rasa, without knowing it was a remake of the fantastic 1984 movie I would have given it an 8, or a 9.

It could have been better, but without seing the orignal , I can not tell you whether it is an improvement , or another hollywood screw up designed to bring back the eighties for box ofice hits when the ideas have taken a stand stil in California confrence rooms

A young hero who's learning to be a martial arts expert in a matter of days, is somewhat unnatural. But leaving that aside, what we get is a damn good action flick!

This remake of the 1984 hit is nothing more then a fun going-out. Plot-wise, It delivers nothing more than the original even though screen writing has become a bit more complex and deeper. Action-wise the film excels. The choreography of the martial arts is a few levels higher the most films out there. If you love martial arts this is for you.
