Worst. Movie. Ever.
This is my least favorite movie. The trailer for it looked AMAZING. All throughout the movie I was completely blown away. I thought it would be another more mature version of National Treasure. The movie kept building me up higher and higher but then the ending came and I was thoroughly disappointed. They couldn't have picked a crappier way to sum the whole movie up. It's like they built the audience up only for disappointment. There was no big crescendo like I'd hoped there would be. Instead it was as if they were too lazy or unintelligent to come up with such an ending so they just decided an apocalypse would be the easy way out. While the movie itself up until the ending was great, in my opinion it is not worth seeing.

Seemed really good to start. However, for the last 30 min or so it just became weird and disinteresting even depressing. Not sure I would recommend to anyone.

The acting was horrible, the script is littered with plot holes, and the music is terribly melodramatic. And yet, I still really like the main concept of the film, that a document from the past could predict all of the major disasters in the world. The fact that the film doesn't live up to its promise (and in fact goes in some truly strange, unexpected directions) and has many unintentionally funny scenes still doesn't stop me from making a borderline recommendation. Knowing, like the film Jumper, has a lot of promise and, with more oversight, this film could have been great. As it is, it's a solid B-movie experience.

3-22-09 If Knowing does nothing else, it will make you think. It skims the surface of many folklores, religion, Scientology and the ultimate questions: Why are we here and are we alone? It is difficult to tell you if you will like this movie or to pick a generic group that will like it. For me, it was a good movie that was a touch long. I don't normally enjoy Nicolas Cage, who plays John. Cage generally overacts, and I gave up on him after the National Treasure franchise. But this film is a plus for him. He is twitchy enough to pull off the paranoid scientist obsessed with decoding the series of numbers left in a time capsule 50 years ago. We get to see the girl write out the numbers in 1959 after hearing whispers. She puts it in the capsule. John cracks the series and discovers the numbers correspond to human catastrophes throughout history. He is able to figure out the final two future dates and locations on the paper before the numbers stop. He now wants to break the chain and save the world. This film is vivid, and the incidents are disturbingly real. At times, it was hard to watch. I think, ultimately, Knowing tries to be much more important than it is. It tries harder to send a message about a greater truth and what is out there than it does being a great movie. I enjoyed it a lot, but most people probably won't. In the obligatory star-rating system, I give it three stars for the masses and four stars in my personal book. tinyurl.com/csfgyu

Very little worth watching in this movie. The concept may sound interesting, but the delivery is second rate. There are just too many poor lines and poorly delivered lines, overly long, SLOW scenes, and childish special effects.

Before seeing this, I thought the concept was great, now, thanks to Nick, his "talent", and choice of scripts, I know the concept stinks.
I had to watch Postal (by another UBERTALENT, Uwe Boll), to get the stench of FAILURE out of my nose!
Why can't Nick try and be more like his cousin, and just direct?

I Know that the best things about this movie were the catastrophes and how realistic and well shot they were, however they acted as wonderful in-movie representations of Nicolas Cage's acting and the entire movie/plot as a whole. 2 stars, one each for great catastrophes and breaking the mold a bit.
Many times throughout the movie I asked myself, "How could they...", "Why would...", and "Does that even make sense...". It was spectacularly bad, trite, over thought, and comical, with an ending that any person who just discovered science fiction would've written up. If you can laugh at those things, this movie will have an interesting unintended effect on you.
The score included several sort of b-movie orchestral overlays that made me giggle a bit, however some powerful pieces at the end made up for it.
I'm shocked that Ebert praised this and practically panned Star Trek.

Cri-fi?
This is a strange beast of a movie, best described as a christian take on The Quiet Earth. Some nice special effects, particularly in its pre-final act. A lot of dialog ends with the question if it was "Mmkay?" (uttered by Nicolas Cage, no less)....

A lot of dialog ends with the question if it was "Mmkay?" (uttered by Nicolas Cage, no less). Oh, and most of its characters seem unable and unwilling to build or maintain a humane relationship with anyone which gives it the ugly feel of the film adaption of The Human Stain. My rating includes extra points for originality.

Aside from a couple of very good special effects sequences..this movie was a snore.
It felt like each scene was just there to get me from point A to point B, which I realise is trhe point but usually they TRY to get the audience interested. It didn't seem to me there was any joy or passion for this film. At least based on what is on the screen.
Just boring and ridiculous.

The plane crash and the subway scenes were excellent.
The film is also an opening to many theological and philosophical ideas.
